NORSEAL by day, HARBOUR SEAL (Common seal) by night - I attended a seal rescue last week and sadly she was not doing so well. Stranded on a busy beach in Tynemouth with many dogs and gawpers . Scared and cold and underweight with à temperature, I secured her and transferred her to the vets in Alnwick, Northumberland before moving her on to our seal B&B close by. She was tube fed and rehydrated and we were really worried quite about her but she rallied. I’ve had word this morning from ‘Hesselhead Sanctuary’ she’s doing really good and putting on weight. I’m going to hear more news over the coming days and possibly release her to the sea myself. Just in case you wondered, I am a fully trained Marine mammal medic with the BDMLR. If you do see any kind of marine mammal on the beach please keep a good distance back. Seals WILL bite and infect you with up to 4 pathogen/viruses. You’ll be on antibiotics for 21 days. Instead, advise people to leash their dogs and keep them away (there is law about this) and try and form a shield to keep other people away. Do not try and move the seal yourself. Then ring us on 01825 765546 and if possible use what3words.More info can be found on www.bdmlr.org.ukI’ll update next week. Norseal also sell seals but not like this! 😀 www.norseal.co.uk🦭 this is Peggy - (Obsidian)

When we are silent, we become complicit.Until we don't act collectively, change will never come. Collective action is often crucial for driving meaningful change in society. The MMPA prohibits the "take" of marine mammals, which includes harassment, hunting, capturing, and killing, and establishes a moratorium on the import, export, and sale of marine mammal products. Facilities such as aquariums that house marine mammals must adhere to strict regulations and obtain the necessary permits to ensure the well-being of the animals. Can you spot who I'm pointing to? 👀Hint: his lucky day was last Sunday! 🥰Tomorrow it will be one week since we managed to free the male grey seal known as 'Commuter' from his horrendous 6+ year long entanglement in the seal of an anti-fouling paint can (a stiff plastic hoop). We are very relieved to hear that Commuter has been seen since elsewhere on the Cornish coast, reported by volunteers fromCornwall Seal Group Research Trust- and appeared to be doing well, hanging out with some other seals, which is fantastic news 😊I think everyone involved is still buzzing with joy at having finally been able to help this poor seal ❤️Although we must celebrate this enormous success, we also have to remember that there are still so many seals out there with entanglements waiting to be helped. Assisting these individuals safely is not straightforward- it requires a very specific set of circ*mstances, as well as a specialist team and equipment to be available within a matter of a few hours. But if and when we can jump into action, we absolutely will. Thanks again to my fellow@bdmlr_ukMarine Mammal Medics for their epic rescue skills, and@cornwallsealgroupresearchtrustfor being the eyes on the ground that we so desperately need in order to reach these seals in time.#bdmlr#bdmlrmedic#greyseal#entanglement#sealentanglement#britishwildlife#marinepollution#marinelitter#marinemammalrescue#animalsinneed#animalrescue#marineplastic#luckyday

Let's explore the fascinating world of aquatic animals!Today we'll explore the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin!Atlantic spotted dolphins are found in warm temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. They usually form groups of five to 50 individuals, but sometimes travel in groups of up to 200. They are fast swimmers and often “surf” in the waves created by vessels.Young Atlantic spotted dolphins do not have spots. As a result, they can look like slender bottlenose dolphins. Their distinctive spotted pattern starts to appear all over their bodies as they get older.Atlantic spotted dolphins, like all marine mammals, are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.#imagovttReference: https://lnkd.in/ds42rR47
