Bargain Hunt aired a special edition of the BBC programme on Friday, but viewers were less than impressed with the change.

Bargain Hunt looked slightly different on Friday (June 14) and fans weren't happy about it.

The BBC programme returned with a brand new episode as the red and blue teams went head-to-head in a "pet extravaganza" to mark the RSPCA's 200th birthday.

Hosted by Christina Trevanion, the presenter welcomed red team members Matt and Georgie, who were joined by their pet pooch Sprocket. Mother and daughter Val and Rachel made up the blue team and were accompanied by their dog Jack.

Experts Caroline Hawley and Thomas Forrester were on hand to help out, with the contestants receiving £300 to spend on antiques.

For their challenge, engaged couple Matt and Georgie were tasked with finding a four-legged item. Meanwhile the blue team went on the hunt for a piece of bone china.

However, viewers appeared distracted by the episode as they took to social media to complain. One wrote: "How ridiculous, dogs on BH and even asking them what they think of items!"

A second added: "Sweet baby Jesus, dogs taking over and choosing items to buy, this is friggin infantile and stupid." Another agreed: "Let's hope they don't do another dog episode anytime soon."

A fourth declared: "All the dog stuff is a big distraction." Someone else weighed in: "Patronising TV time. No more 'doggies' please." Meanwhile another shared: "What’s with the all the dog stuff today then? Apart from it being annoying, it’s like watching kids tv."

The red team purchased a Beswick dalmation for £32, a 19th century wooden casket for £150 and £15 on a brass parrot letter opener. Meanwhile the blues spent £15 on a bone china jar and cover, £85 on metal garden sculptures and £60 on a terrier silver stick pin.

The red team had an incredibly successful day, making profit on all three of their items. Caroline presented the duo with her £38 bonus buy - an Art Deco brooch featuring two dogs.

The brooch went for £42 at auction, meaning the team left with a £65 profit and four Golden Gavels. The blue team didn't have the same luck, finishing the day with a total loss of £17.
