There are lots and lots of fun things to do with your kids this weekend, June 21st – June 23rd. Attend the annual California Watermelon Festival, marvel at the artistry on display at the 31st Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival in Pasadena, check out the Taste of Japan event in Anaheim, sit down for Story Time at The Gamble House, have some summer fun at the Venice Summer Fest, and much more!

Friday, June 21st is Make Music Day, “a free celebration of music, launched in 1982 in France as Fête de la Musique, and now held in more than 1200 cities in 120 countries.” Make Music Day is a day for everyone. “Musicians of every age, culture, genre, and skill level are encouraged to create a FREE outdoor concert and play, on sidewalks, streets, parks or at home on social media, to share music with friends, neighbors, and strangers.” Multiple Los Angeles-area events are planned including a morning concert in Leimert Park happening from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Enjoy the performances, watch the livestream, participate in activities, and enjoy a mobile food pop-up. The City of Santa Monica is also hosting several Make Music Los Angeles events. Each Friday, from June to August, families are invited to Chalk It Up at Cayton Children’s Museum. The fun happens from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, when sidewalks are transformed into colorful canvases. Michael Martinez, author and founder of LA Compost, will be reading from his book Composting for Community at Memorial Branch Library on Friday, June 21st at 11:00 am. The children’s book tells the story of Mateo’s father, a composter. “When the class falls silent during his career day presentation, he sets out to learn more about not only his father’s job but about composting itself.” Additionally, those who attend will have the opportunity to take home a copy of Composting for Community. The Music Center’s Dance DTLA – Celebrating 20 Years of Dance DTLA

The Music Center’s Dance DTLA program begins on Friday, June 21st from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Participants get the chance to try a different dance style for eight Friday nights this summer. The free event starts with a beginner dance lesson and then, it’s time to “boogie down on the dance floor like no one is watching!” No dance experience required. This is an all-ages event. Westfield Fashion Square is hosting its weekly Movies On the Roof series throughout the summer. The outdoor “movie-screening experience includes comfortable seating on plush bean bag chairs or deep-seated Adirondack chairs,?state-of-the-art projection and sound, and valley views in an upscale event space on the rooftop of Westfield Fashion Square.” Doors open at 7:30 pm with music, games, and giveaways to enjoy before the movie starts at sunset (around 8:30 pm).
