Gorgeous Summer Wedding at the Highline in Rochester, NY (2024)

If you've followed us for a while, you know that we live for eye-catching and colorful wedding designs. Although a classic white and greenery wedding color palette is stunning, our couples often hire us to create beautiful designs unique to THEM. For Katie and Joe's gorgeous early summer wedding at the Highline in Rochester, NY, that meant creating a fresh wedding color palette with peaches, pinks and pops of yellow as the dominant colors. To add a little dimension, we also included accents of green, blue, and champagne!

Gone are the days of committing to just one or two wedding colors. In 2022, the best wedding designs have a little more to them. Katie and Joe's colorful palette ended up being refined and bold, while still being playful and whimsical. The best feeling ever, was receiving this sweet text message shortly after their wedding:

Their wedding day design was inspired by their love story, and that meant including a nod to the City of Rochester. Their guests' first impression was a stunning custom invitation suite of preppy patterns and notable landmarks (including gingham and the Buffalo Bills Zubaz!). We brought those invitations to be photographed with a few “day of details” as Katie and Joe got ready for their wedding day.

Throughout the wedding day, you can see Katie and Joe's refreshing, beautiful personalities. Their getting ready photos are some of my favorites. From the floral robes of the bridesmaids, to the white cowboy hats (Katie spent lived for a time in Austin, TX) and heart-shaped sunglasses, to the fun and colorful pattern inside Joe's suit jacket, their wedding was just as joyful as they are.

Another unique wedding day detail? The groomsmen's gifts were custom mugs inspired by the groom's love of craft beer!

Katie and Joe's ceremony took place at the stunning Chapel Hill in Rochester, NY. We created a beautiful altar arrangement in shades of pink, yellow, and orange. We kept the ceremony minimal but impactful. Already a beautiful space, Chapel Hill needed little in terms of decor. I wanted to make sure that what we added only augmented its natural beauty.

To minimize waste, we also asked the florist to move the altar arrangement to their reception location to make the most of the display. Florals are almost always one of my favorite investments on a wedding day, and I always look for creative ways to maximize their impact.

Welcoming guests into their reception, we set up a comfortable yet stylish lounge. Using a mix of textures and materials (the mustard yellow velvet chairs were a favorite), we created an attractive place for guests to visit and relax with co*cktails. The setting felt elevated and inviting, with guest experience of the utmost importance.

The Highline wedding venue was the perfect blank space to make our own. The fun preppy patterns and bold spring floral design carried into the reception. The beautiful and vibrant colors came together perfectly with summer florals and fun patterned linens throughout the wedding reception. We also included “softer” wedding design elements, like the neutral tablescape and flatware (to keep the linens in the spotlight) and a variety of gorgeous floral chandeliers.

For the seating chart, we created a beautiful display with fabric escort cards. We also crafted something unique in the space with a mosaic floorplan with alternating rectangles and rounds. I love to mix and match table styles. The mosaic layout breaks up the monotony and affords multiple looks for the contemporary dining tables. The whole reception came together flawlessly (if I do say so myself!).

Another unique and personal touch? Their guest book was a coffee table book about called “Brew Dogs,” that married their love of animals (they have 3 dogs) and craft beers!

If you know me, you know I love macarons! For their dessert table, we offered guests miniature desserts inspired by the bride and groom's favorites in their wedding color palette. Perfect for guest grazing (and so fun!). For their two-tier wedding cake, we brought back their love of Rochester from the invitations with the skyline sitting on top of the second tier. For the bottom tier, we brought back the Buffalo Bills Zubaz print. Everything really came together full circle – from invitations to wedding cake – with Katie and Joe's custom wedding design. I love when something feels just so uniquely them.
