I had the honour of working for Dave Mills at Golf Ontario - my first job out of school. He was a quiet man who listened before speaking. I remember he gave up his corner office as our Marketing team grew just so we could work together in the same space. He never seemed concerned about flashy things…just moving forward and making progress. He was a man to be respected and admired for his calm, welcoming demeanour. I will never forget learning that Dave was also a creative individual, taking beautiful photographs of nature as well as action shots on the course … he also loved wine and right before the Christmas break, Dave would come into the office, arms full of wine bottles, arrange them under the office tree and alert the staff that ‘Santa’ had stopped by. I am saddened to read about Dave’s passing. Although our overlap at Golf Ontario was brief, his low profile leadership and dedication to the game of golf was something I admired. My condolences to the Mills family. The scholarship will be an excellent way to honour Dave’s legacy.

I actually laughed out loud when I read this. Absolute gold, Shaun Henry. Thanks bringing some humour to this issue!B2B, automized COLD outreach is out of control. I've been in a new role now for four weeks and my inbox is blowing up with email sequences (mostly from companies in highly saturated tech markets). It's the new ‘cold calling’ but instead of someone following up every couple of months, it's daily…and there's no real human connection. My email is pulled from a database (most likely a paid one). Nothing is known about me other than I'm a main contact at a reputable company. It's a numbers game.Unpopular opinion: I believe sequences should be reserved for one purpose:Email SUBSCRIBERS - those who have actively AGREED to receive your information!Building trust RARELY starts with cold outreach. In a digital world, information is at our fingertips. If I'm in need of a product solution (talking tech here), I'm doing my research first. I'm reading ‘The best software for [insert pain point]’. I'm checking out reviews. I'm hitting up Reddit. I want to hear from people who’ve used the product. I don't want e-mail after (increasingly aggressive) e-mail from a sales bot. Here’s where smart companies shine (IMO)…While I'm doing my dugilligence, I'm leaving tracks all over the web for both the companies I'm researching AND their competitors. Smart companies are then capitalizing on my website visits and providing me with RELEVANT ads - mostly via social channels or google ads. They stay in front of me, without blowing up my inbox. They warm me up - offer a trial. Maybe I jump on the trial…which, guess what happens…They get my email and add me to a sequence! A sequence that I have actively opted into. And it's not a pushy sales sequence. The sequence is usually highly relevant and HELPFUL. The sales push will come after. Too many companies are slipping the most important step: building trust.

This is for everyone. If you aren't feeling some type of imposter syndrome, you simply aren't facing enough discomfort. Discomfort and Uncertainty = Growth. And, it's normal.

What a great solution by artist Simon O’Rourke: turning a damaged tree, destined to be removed, into a gorgeous piece of art. Creativity has no bounds. Incredible work. 🙌🏼 🌲 🖐🏾

LOVE this post by Noah Smith in response to Braden Wallake ‘s viral ‘crying CEO.’While I do love a good meme, I disagree with many of the terribly negative comments he received. Vilifying a CEO who supported a small team seems like too easy of a target. In fact, the only people who should have a true opinion/reaction to the post should be those who were directly impacted. Noah states below that, regarding his next opportunity, he’s ‘only interested in working with people like Braden’. He also sums up his feelings regarding the negative comments quite nicely: ‘do you have nothing better to do with your day than scroll LinkedIn looking for people to bring down?’It’s tough times right now. Companies are downsizing their workforce. Much of this downsizing is directly tied to poor decisions at the top. It’s nice to see a leader admit their fault and feel remorse for the impact it’s caused. Let’s all be kinder to each other. Instead of using your time to bring people down, don’t comment at all. Use that time to help those affected. Share and comment on THEIR posts for greater reach. Just my thoughts.
